Český Brod is preparing an extensive reconstruction of Arnošt' z Pardubic Square and Hus Square. The areas that make up the centre of the town do not meet current requirements, for example they lack space for meetings. The town councillors are expected to approve that the town will start preparing an architectural competition for a new design of the square, according to Mayor Tomáš Klinecký (Lepší Brod).

"The main problem is the lack of areas that would allow for meetings and events, it's not a very pleasant space to be in and at the same time a large part is taken up by parking spaces," Klinecký said. He said the parked cars cannot be removed from the square completely because there are shops, offices and people living there. "But at least some of the parking spaces can be relocated elsewhere," the mayor said.

Klinecký said the city could announce an architectural competition for the new look of the square in the spring, and he hopes to have project documentation within a year or two. "We are counting on the fact that funding could be obtained from the Integrated Territorial Investment Programme, from which we would like to draw on two more projects," he added.

The city has already prepared the reconstruction of the square in the past, but due to lack of money it did not happen. According to Klinecký, the original project documentation is about 15 years old and outdated.
