The share of foreign workers in Poland has risen to 6.6% of the total employed population by the end of March 2024, marking an increase of 1.4 percentage points since January 2022, according to the Central Statistical Office (GUS). This growth reflects the rising number of international workers contributing to the Polish labor market. As of March, there were 1,011,600 foreign nationals employed in the country, with 383,800 working under civil law contracts.

Ukrainian citizens continued to dominate the foreign workforce, with 690,100 employed in Poland by the end of March 2024. However, their share in the overall foreign worker population has decreased by 5.1 percentage points since January 2022.

Foreign workers in Poland represent a diverse group, with individuals hailing from over 150 countries. The majority are men, though their representation has declined from 64.7% in January 2022 to 59.6% by March 2024.

Regional disparities are notable, with nearly one-fifth (19.1%) of all foreign workers residing in the Warsaw-Capital region. Conversely, the Świętokrzyskie region reported the smallest share, with less than 1.0% of the foreign workforce.

The findings are part of an experimental effort by GUS to quantify the foreign labor population using administrative data. Unlike traditional public statistics, which exclude civil law contractors from employment figures, this experimental work covers all individuals performing work, including those employed under contractual and related agreements.
