In the last financial year, which ended on August 31, the IKEA furniture network in the Czech Republic fell by 7.5 percent year on year to CZK 9.7 billion. The reason was the closed shops due to the spread of coronavirus infection. On the contrary, online sales grew, about a quarter higher than in the previous year. They accounted for approximately 40 percent of total sales. The company announced this in a press release, while E15 daily drew attention to the economic results.

IKEA also stated today that it wants to put design kiosks into regional cities this year. He is also preparing the Scan & Go service via the mobile application, where people will be able to scan and pay for selected goods in the store without waiting in line.

Last financial year, the company invested CZK 280 million in projects in the Czech Republic to improve the customer experience. It introduced self-service dispensing boxes at department stores, expanded the network of dispensing cities in the regions and opened a new dispensing warehouse in Brno. In Prague, it made its first design studio available to customers in the region of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.

Another novelty concerns the used bid offer. People will be able to view it on the Internet and also book selected goods straight away. They will then pick it up and pay at the department store.

The IKEA chain in the Czech Republic employs an average of around 1,600 people, who have seen an average wage increase of five percent. The company also paid them about 27 million crowns in bonuses, according to David McCabe< CEO of IKEA Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia.

IKEA is a Swedish furniture company that has been operating in the Czech Republic since 1996, operating four department stores in the Czech Republic - two in Prague, one each in Brno and Ostrava. Other chains include XXXLutz, Jysk, Möbelix, Sconto or Asko Nábytek.
