ZUS: 1 127.7 thousand insured foreigners, including 759.4 thousand Ukrainians at the end of 2023

Social insurance covered 1,127.7 thousand foreigners at the end of 2023 (i.e. 6.9% of all insured), according to the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS). The most numerous group were citizens of Ukraine - there were 759.4 thousand of them (i.e. 4.7% of all insured).

In the total number of insured persons, 6.9% of people had citizenship other than Polish. At the end of 2023, there were more than 1,127.7 thousand foreigners registered with ZUS, an increase of 6.1% compared to the end of 2022. Of this number, 59.1 per cent were employees, 36.5 per cent performed work on the basis of a contract of mandate or an agency agreement, and the remainder were covered by other forms of employment, according to the report "Summary of the financial situation of the Social Insurance Fund in 2023".

The most numerous group of foreigners for many years has been citizens of Ukraine. At the end of 2023, they accounted for 67.3% of all foreigners registered with the Social Insurance Fund and 4.7% of all insured persons, and their number amounted to 759.4 thousand, i.e. 1.8% more than at the end of 2022, according to the report.

Another large group of foreigners are citizens of Belarus. At the end of 2023, 129.4 thousand people from Belarus were registered with ZUS and they accounted for 11.5% of all insured foreigners. The number of Belarusian citizens registered with ZUS increased by 19.7% compared to the end of 2022, the Department also reported.

In total, the number of insured persons in ZUS at the end of 2023 was over 16,262.5 thousand, 10.5 thousand less than a year earlier.

The most numerous group of insured persons were employees (71.5%), followed by persons running a business and persons cooperating with them (10.8%) and persons performing work on the basis of a contract of mandate or an agency agreement (8.3%), according to the report.
