Prague will buy the former Orionka depot in Vinohrady from the transport company

Prague will buy the former Královské Vinohrady depot, known as Orionka, from its transport company (DPP). The sale was approved today by the city council in its capacity as the general assembly of DPP. The depot ceased to serve its purpose in the mid-1950s and was classified as surplus property by the DPP in 2009. The first part of the carriage house was built in 1897 when a shed was constructed along Crown Avenue.

Orionka is a former tram and trolleybus depot and consists of several plots of land and buildings. The main one is a building with three industrial halls, an office building, and it also includes an apartment building heated by a gas boiler, which was acquired in 2020. The site also includes warehouses, a gatehouse or shelters and a ramp for washing vehicles. The courtyard is illuminated and there are also historic tram tracks, which were laid by František Křižík in 1897.

The city wants to take ownership of the area in the long term. According to the municipality's earlier plans, the Orionka cultural and community centre is to be built there, and the project is currently being prepared. The site is also to be used for leisure activities, and the zoning plan allows for the planting of greenery on the site.

The site of the former depot is currently partly rented out, including offices, rooms in the building and rooms for office and storage space, as well as an area for parking.
